We were recently in Baton Rouge for a check up for Anna Grace with Dr. Thomas. Before the appointment we took the girls to the mall and rode the carousel of course!
At her appointment, Dr. Thomas took a long time observing her every move. He was not concerned with her mental development but could tell that her motor skills were just a little behind, due to the paralytic she was on. He also heard the growl in her voice, but said again that it could do more harm than good to try to fix that now. He also said he felt like she might be having some reflux and that was causing her vocal cords to be irritated. It made alot of sense out of her restlessness at night and the random "stomach flu" she kept getting. He also gave us an "action plan" for the cold and flu season, in case she begins to show signs of respiratory problems. All in all, he was very pleased. And yes, Anna Grace's story did get accepted on the show. They will be here on November 12 to film and the episode will air sometime in December.
We also brought a couple of new toys to the hospital. The Children's Life division of Our Lady of the Lake Children's hospital was wonderful to us while she was there. They made sure we had good music to listen to, toys for her and sister to play with, and provided us with lots and lots of movies to help pass the time. So we want to committ to donating to them every year around her birthday. It was definately an experience to be back on the Children's Hospital floor again. We saw many familiar faces, but one especially. One of our favorite nurses in the PICU was Michelle. She was there with us most of the time. She seemed to take a special interest in Anna Grace and us. She was so helpful and kind, it was good to see her and show her what Anna Grace was like now. Then Anna Grace wanted her to hold her, which was precious, she doesn't always want to go to anyone else, much less strangers. They talked and sang and hugged. It takes a very special person to be a PICU nurse!!!
