Big Wheezy

We have had what seems like quite a long 2 1/2 weeks or so. It all started on Allie's birthday. We were getting ready for Allie's 3 year dr appointment when we heard Anna Grace choking. I looked in her mouth and didn't see anything, but she was still having trouble breathing. That was certainly the most panicked I've ever been. Whatever it was finally cleared and we were able to just rush to the dr's office instead of the ER. At the dr's office they checked her out, she was getting 100% of her oxygen and they sent us for an Xray to see what it was she had choked on. The Xray showed nothing, however the next day she woke up wheezing. Every breath she took was labored. So we rushed again back to the dr's office and saw a different dr this time, the dr we saw previously wasn't coming in that day. They put her on a breathing treatment 3 times a day. I felt pretty good about this and that they knew what they were doing so this would surely help. So we left to go to Tuscaloosa. While in Tuscaloosa we were very diligent in giving her the breathing treatment (which is not easy on an 11 month old by the way), but we saw absolutely no change. We came home to Pineville and went back to the dr the next morning, to the 3rd dr. and finally the one that usually sees Anna Grace. She seemed much more concerned about this than the other one did. She prescribed her a streiod and an antibiotic and increased her breathing treatment to every 4 hours around the clock. She wanted to see us again before the weekend. So we went back on Friday and everything sounded much better, no wheezing, but she wanted to check her again in a week to make sure it was gone. In that time we were to slowly take her off the breathing treatment and stop the antibiotics. So the next Friday when we went back she heard more wheezing again and sent us for a chest Xray. The chest Xray showed there was pneumonia and we had to come in again that very day for more antibiotics and instructions. She was not allowed to go anywhere around other children for a week. The pneumonia is not contagious, but the virus that gave her pneumonia is and could make other babies very sick too. My poor baby has now had 2 xrays (there will be more throughout the winter to make sure it hasn't come back), 5 antibiotics, too many breathing treatments to count, 2 shots, and all in about 6 dr visits. And we're not through yet. We have to go tomorrow for another dr visit to see how she's doing now and hopefully it has cleared up. We are very blessed that she wasn't sent to the hospital and that it's not worse, because it easily could be. Tomorrow is kind of a big day though, I'm afraid of what they will want to do if she is still wheezing. So I'm asking you to pray for Anna Grace and the dr tomorrow, that the Lord will heal her lungs and they will be clear, and if it is not gone that the dr will make wise decisions as to her treatment. Big Wheezy is what Andrew has been calling her, and Allie is quick to say "her name is not Big Wheezy! It's Anna Grace", hopefully we will have no more "Big Wheezy" and just Anna Grace from now on.

And Allie was praying before dinner the other night and said "...and Anna Grace has the amonia", how sweet is that!
